In the last few years, Macau has become the biggest Asian region in terms of economic and tourist growth due to the huge investments received in the fields of gambling and casinos.

The casino industry has exploded in Macau since 2001, when the government terminated the monopoly run over the industry until that moment by Chinese businessman Stanley Ho, which permitted the arrival of prestigious foreign operators such as MGM, Las Vegas Sands, Australia’s Crown and Hong Kong’s Galaxy among others.

The authorities of the State of Texas have decided that the best way to take a decision about whether to install or not casinos in the Stat, is for the citizens of the community to figure out what they think is the best decision through an election.

Two senators gave a press conference to explain that there will be made a legislation so that the Texans can vote and make a decision on whether or not they want the casinos to be installed in Texas.

The previously bankrupt and often maligned casino -which is now being remodeled- is expected to be officially renamed the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in April according to Robert Earl, co-chairman of Aladdin owner OpBiz.

"We've been slowly constructing, planning, understanding a very difficult space, by the end of the third quarter, we'll be finished," Earl said.

Woman gives birth in Casino

A woman playing the slots Saturday morning left the Resorts Atlantic City casino with her own little jackpot — a new baby boy.

Eight-months pregnant Nyree Thompson, 32, went into labor on the casino floor about 9:30 a.m.

Thompson said she mistook labor pains for gas at first, but after going to the restroom told a security guard that she might be giving birth.

Casino closes after 26 years

After 26 years, the Sands Hotel & Casino, one of the antiques of Atlantic City, will close next Saturday. Businessman Carl Icahn, who bought the Sands six years ago, sold it last September to Pinnacle Entertainment Inc., that plans on tearing the building down to build a bigger and more modern casino.

To many traditional visitors of the Sands, where Frank Sinatra performed many times in the last years of his career, the closure will mean the end of an entire era that started to decline in 2003 with the opening of the luxurious Borgata, that changed for ever the way people play in the city.

Steve Wynn was at his office showing to some friends the Picasso canvas he just sold to another collector when he accidentally gave “The Dream” an elbow.

The canvas was recently sold in $139 million in a bid that established a new record in Picasso’s sales.

But now the sale was suspended because of the accident.

The first nonsmoking casino

The W.C.W Corp. was granted by the Fernley Planning Commission a special permit to open a nonsmoking casino. “This casino will be unique”, W.C.W Director Scott Tate told the Planning Commission.

The permit would allow the construction of a 9,000-square-foot casino, a 4,500-square-foot restaurant and a 60-room hotel on the north side of Main Street. The facilities will be built in three faces, starting with the casino.

Masked man robs casino shuttle

A masked man armed with a silver gun stepped aboard a casino shuttle and robbed, at gunpoint, seven elderly passengers and the shuttle driver.

The shuttle had made a 20-mile trip to Colorado Springs late Thursday when the thief stepped in. He told the passengers and the driver that they could keep their wedding rings but he demanded all their other values.
