Amazing Holdings, lead by three Scottish businessmen, is planning the construction of a £350 million complex in the Penghu Islands. It will feature a state-of-the-art hotel and an entertainment center that is expected to attract gamblers, especially high-rollers, from Taiwan and China and compete with casino mecca Macau.
Scottish entrepreneurs Ian Irwin and Tim Potter said the company is ready to move forward. “Things are moving along nicely, there is a lot of activity bubbling underneath in South-east Asia and we felt the time was right to put down a marker,” finance director Irving explained.
Although gambling is not legal in Taiwan yet, the government has plans to authorize it, as part of a strategy to lure more tourists. This decision of the Taiwanese authorities follows Singapore’s change of policy about banning slot machines and table games in the country.
Amazing will probably receive the first gambling license in Taiwan and it intends to imitate the success of Macau. Nowadays, about 1.3 million Taiwanese travel to Macau each year to gamble in the casinos and approximately 10 million choose other destinations with the sole purpose of gambling.
